Speke Hall
Speke Hall is roughly a 40 mins drive from us on the Liverpool side of the Mersey.
The last time I visited would have been around 1978 when I was on a school trip.
It's a lot smaller than I remembered but still as gorgeous.
Owned by the Norris family the original hall was built in 1530 with extra wings being built between 1531 and 1598. Since then there have only been minor changes to the building. The National Trust took it over in 1943 and in the 1970s it underwent a 7 year renovation. The Trust took over full responsibility in 1986.
Despite this photo only having a few people in it, the day we went was a Bank Holiday and the place was heaving. We didn't get to look around the house and the grounds were busy with families enjoying a Medieval Day.
Not to worry though. It's not too far away and there will be plenty more opportunities to see it.
